The AN381-1-16 is a stainless steel cotter pin conforming to AN381 specifications (superseded by MS24665). This split-pin fastener provides mechanical retention for drilled bolts and castellated nuts in aircraft control linkages and structural assemblies. The nonmagnetic, corrosion-resistant material resists oxidation in exposed airframe locations.
Installation requires inserting the pin through aligned holes in the bolt and nut, then spreading the legs to prevent rotation. Widely used in general and commercial aviation for securing flight control connections where reliable, vibration-resistant fastening is essential.
