The FDU-70 is a Collins Aerospace flux detector unit that measures Earth's magnetic field to provide accurate heading reference for aircraft navigation systems. This component interfaces with the MCS-65 system, working in conjunction with the DGS-65 directional gyro and CCU-65 compensator. Mounted on the airframe in a low-interference location, the flux detector generates sine/cosine outputs transmitted to the heading computer for real-time directional data.
Installation and alignment must follow the aircraft maintenance manual and applicable component maintenance manual specifications to ensure accurate magnetic field sensing and system performance.
