The hsaa040036tl is a steel cotter pin designed to lock castellated nuts on drilled bolts in aircraft structures. This split pin passes through aligned holes in the bolt and nut, then bends outward to prevent rotational loosening. Commonly installed on landing gear torque-link fasteners and other critical joints requiring positive mechanical locking.
After insertion, both legs are bent back along the bolt shaft to secure the assembly. The pin must be discarded and replaced each time the fastener is removed, per FAA AC 43.13-1B safetying standards. Verify correct size against the aircraft maintenance manual or illustrated parts catalog before installation.
