The 78-8051-9220-6 is an external antenna for L-3/BFGoodrich Stormscope WX-1000 series lightning detection systems, including WX-1000+ and WX-1000E models. This black antenna mounts to the aircraft exterior and connects via cable to the Stormscope processor/display unit. It receives sferics (electromagnetic signals from lightning activity) to enable real-time lightning mapping and storm cell tracking in the cockpit.
