The AN310-9 is a plain hexagonal castellated nut manufactured in steel for positive locking on drilled-shank bolts. Slots cut into the nut crown align with holes drilled through the bolt shank, allowing a cotter pin to pass through and prevent rotation. Steel construction meets aviation standards; the AN310 series is now designated NASM310.
Install on drilled-shank bolts by torquing to minimum specification per FAA AC 43.13-1B, then insert the cotter pin through aligned slots. Common in airframe structural joints and control surface attachments where vibration-resistant fastening is critical.
