The DIN 985 M4 is a hexagon self-locking nut with a nonmetallic nylon insert, manufactured from A2 stainless steel. The nylon ring creates prevailing torque that resists loosening under vibration, maintaining fastener integrity during flight operations. This nut is commonly used in avionics rack installations, instrument panel assemblies, and other aircraft systems where vibration resistance is critical.
Installation should follow the aircraft maintenance manual and FAA AC 43.13-1B guidance. Note: nylon-insert locknuts are rated to 250°F and should not be used on frequently removed panels.
