The 1N4005 is a silicon rectifier diode that controls current flow in one direction within aircraft electrical circuits. It suppresses voltage spikes generated by relay and contactor coils during switching, protecting sensitive avionics and control systems from transient damage. Install with the cathode band facing the coil positive terminal per wiring diagrams and FAA AC 43.13-1B guidance.
This JEDEC-standard component is essential for reliable DC circuit protection in general aviation electrical systems.
