The m4006-4 is an oil pressure switch that monitors engine oil pressure and activates a Hobbs hour meter. This normally open SPST unit closes when oil pressure reaches approximately 4 psi, triggering time-logging when the engine starts. It mounts via a 1/8-27 NPT male thread directly into the engine oil gallery port.
When oil pressure rises after engine startup, the switch engages, starting the Hobbs meter to track flight time. Installation requires connecting the switch to the designated oil gallery port per the aircraft maintenance manual and wiring the unit to the Hobbs meter circuit.
