The MS21045-8 is a steel self-locking hexagon nut conforming to Military Standard MS21045. Its prevailing-torque design resists vibration-induced loosening in structural and systems joints. Used to secure threaded fasteners in airframe and powerplant assemblies where vibration and movement could otherwise cause fastener retreat.
The nylon insert creates consistent torque resistance across multiple install/removal cycles, though reuse is limited by torque retention requirements. Installation and inspection must follow NASM21045 specifications and applicable aircraft maintenance manual procedures.
