The sp90e12 is a steel split pin (cotter pin) designed to lock castellated nuts and prevent fastener loosening on aircraft structures. This hardware secures bolted joints in airframe and engine systems by passing through aligned holes in bolt shanks and nut slots, then bending the tines to create a mechanical lock. Manufactured to NASM24665 (formerly MS24665) and AN380/AN381 aviation standards.
Installation requires selecting the largest pin size that fits the hole, inserting fully, and bending both tines outward per FAA AC 43.13-1B. Replace after each removal to ensure reliable fastening integrity.
