The 500-27 is a portable personal locator beacon (PLB) transmitting 406 MHz distress signals via the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network. Manually activated by pilots or technicians, it provides emergency location data when aircraft communication systems fail. Many models include GNSS position encoding for precise coordinates.
U.S. beacons require NOAA registration before use. The PLB serves as a backup to aircraft Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs) and does not satisfy 14 CFR 91.207 ELT requirements.
Compact design allows carry in flight bags or survival kits for immediate deployment during emergencies.

Avionics compatibility depends on your aircraft model and existing installation. The PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACON is available in: As Removed. We recommend checking your aircraft's wiring diagrams and STC documentation, or contact our avionics team for compatibility assistance.
Availability of an FAA 8130-3 tag depends on the part condition. Overhauled and repaired units typically include 8130-3 documentation. As-removed units may include a removal tag with trace history. Contact us for specific documentation on the condition you need.
We can arrange bench testing through our network of FAA-certified repair stations. Call (904) 998-9101 for testing availability and turnaround times, or submit an RFQ with your specific requirements.
